Edwin Eaton's first involvement with organized skiing came in 1939 when he joined the Hartford Ski Club. He was elected director of the Hartford Club which he served for 20 years. In 1945, he was named director of the U.S. Eastern Amateur Ski Association and served for 12 years. He was elected to the National Ski Association board of directors in 1950 where he served as vice-president the same year. He became NSA president in 1952 and served as chairman of the NSA Downhill, Slalom and Eligibility Rules Committee. In 1953 he represented the U.S. at the World Ski Congress held at Innsbruck, Austria. He was elected vice-president of FIS and served on the FIS Executive Council. Edwin Eaton possessed a deep love of the sport and enjoyed every minute of it whether it was helping a child with lessons, sitting in council with skiing's highest echelons, or just making as many runs on a slope a day would allow.
