Junior Bounous was a pioneer as a certified ski instructor in Utah and worked with Alf Engen at the Alta Ski Area which had a philosophy of promoting the joy of skiing as opposed to the more regimented systems of the time. His career took him to Sugar Bowl in California and then back to Utah to the Sundance area and later to Snowbird where he remained until 1991. At one time he directed a country wide ski training program involving eight city recreation programs and high schools. He was involved in many national associations including the NSA, PSIA and the National Ski Patrol. One of the first native born Americans to be a ski school director he contributed greatly to the growth of skiing in America.
