George Leach was an insurance agent with a military background who lead the United States into the international skiing movement. He was the manager of the U.S. Olympic Ski Team in 1924 and represented the National Ski Association at the first international congress in February 1924 that led to the creation of the FIS.
He was a four term mayor for Minneapolis and took pride that his city was called at that time the "Ski Capital of America."
