Few women on the American ski scene have contributed more to their sport than Gloria Chadwick. From her Class “A” alpine racing days in the 1950s, her service to the sport of skiing continued at the highest level.

Gloria was the team manager of several U.S. Olympic and F.I.S. teams and in 1980 she was named race secretary to the Olympic Games at Lake Placid. In 1970, she became active in the F.I.S. and represented the United States at every F.I.S. Congress. She was an active member of the F.I.S. Ladies Cross-Country Committee.

In 1967, the United States Ski Association published A History of the USSA. Gloria was the executive secretary of the USSA at that time. With the help of Burton Boyum and Harold Grinden and the cooperation and advice of the officers and directors of the USSA, the book contained a history of the USSA and a record of achievements of those who shaped its growth.

Gloria was named director of marketing and public relations of Big Sky, Montana in 1971, a position she held until 1975 when she was named president and general manager of the Burke Mountain, Vermont. Burke Mountain enjoyed unprecedented expansion and development under her leadership. In 1983, Gloria left Burke Mountain to accept the position of Commissioner of Economic Development for the state of Vermont and only recently resigning that position due to a change in administration.

Gloria resided in Marquette, Michigan where she continued to serve her sport as director of the U.S. Olympic Training Center, Northern Michigan University, a position she was awarded in 1985.

Gloria Chadwick was elected to the U.S. National Ski Hall of Fame in 1986.
