U.S. NATIONAL SKI & SNOWBOARD HALL OF FAME AND MUSEUM, INC. SELECTED TO PARTICIPATE IN COLLECTIONS ASSESSMENT FOR PRESERVATION PROGRAM

ISHPEMING, MI –  The U.S. National Ski & Snowboard Hall of Fame and Museum, Inc. announces that it is one of 71 institutions in the United States selected to participate in the Collections Assessment for Preservation (CAP) program.

CAP helps museums improve the care of their collections by providing support for a general conservation assessment of the museum’s collections and buildings. The museum will work with a team of preservation professionals to identify preventive conservation priorities. The final assessment report will help the museum prioritize its collections care efforts in the coming years.

“We pride ourselves on our ability to share our common heritage and build powerful connections with Michigan citizens and national and international visitors.  We are a landmark in Michigan tourism providing public access to our history and culture through historical one-of-a-kind ski collections and exhibits,” stated Justin Koski, Executive Director.  “This CAP program will provide us a plan to preserve our collections through museum best practices to take care of our internal collections and exhibits so that we are not at risk of damaging any of our 18,000 humanities collections that are stored and displayed within our walls.”

The CAP program is administered by the Foundation for Advancement in Conservation through a cooperative agreement with the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Unlike other national Halls of Fame, the U.S. National Ski & Snowboard Hall of Fame and Museum, Inc. is not financially supported by dedicated state or federal funding or a national governing body; therefore, it must fundraise to cover all operational expenses.

If you have specific questions about this grant program, contact Tiia Libin, Director of Major Gifts and Grants, [email protected] or 801-664-0524.
