Dr. Robert Oden has served the sport of skiing for many years. An advisor to the U.S. Olympic Committee from 1960 to 1980, he has promoted race course safety.

Dr. Oden was the medical advisor to the U.S. Olympic Committee from 1960 to 1980, Julius Blegen Award winner in 1985 and the following year won the Rocky Mountain Division Halstead Trophy, making him one of the few individuals to be honored at both divisional and national levels for outstanding service to our sport.

Elected to the Aspen Hall of Fame in 1995, Bob has thus been honored at all levels for his service to the sport of skiing.

Many will remember him as one of the founding trustee of the U.S. Ski Education (U.S. Ski Team) Foundation or as a member of the F.I.S. Medical Committee promoting race course safety at the F.I.S. and USSA levels. Athletes of the 1960s and 1970s will remember him as an originator of the U.S. Ski Team Doctor Pool. He recruited well-known orthopedists from all over the country to serve, traveling with our teams to all F.I. S. events (at their own expense).

Starting with his service at the 1960 Squaw Valley Olympics through his election in 1998 as Sports Medicine Doctor of the year where he was cited for “his years of service to the United States Ski Team,” Bob has always demonstrated his love for the sport of skiing.

Dr. Robert Oden was elected to the U.S. National Ski Hall of Fame in 2002.
