Hall of Fame Nominee
Mike Hattrup was nominated for induction into the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Hall of Fame a little more than 2 years ago. The nomination asked that Mike be considered both as an Athlete and a Sports Builder. Hattrup’s qualifications for induction to the HOF as an athlete are significant. He was named to the US Freestyle Mogul Team in 1987, missing a chance to ski on the World Cup due to injury. Afterwards, Mike skied in numerous ski films, including the most important ski movie of his generation, Greg Stump’s, Blizzard of Aahhhs. Among numerous accolades for his skiing, Hattrup was named by POWDER Magazine in 1998 as one of the “50 Best Skiers in North America”, and in 2006 as one of the “48 Most Influential Skiers of Our Time.” While Mike Hattrup is a great skier, the work he has done to help build the sport of skiing is equally important. Mike has been directly involved in ski testing and product development for 30+ years. He was at the forefront of developing product for all-mountain, freeride, and backcountry skiing. Combine these contributions with being a genuinely nice person and one of the first fully certified Ski Mountaineering Guides by the American Mountain Guides Association, and you have an individual who has done more to shape the sport of skiing than most.
Mike Hattrup belongs in the US Ski & Snowboard Hall of Fame. Thank you for considering his nomination.
