Rusty Gregory’s tremendous impact on the US ski industry began as any snowsports
career should: on a chairlift. Starting as a lift operator at Mammoth Mountain in 1978, he
worked his way up (launching a heli-skiing company in his free time) to ultimately
become Mammoth’s CEO in 1995. Rusty picked up where the legendary Dave McCoy
left off, navigating seamlessly between Wall Street board rooms and steep couloirs. He
now guides snowsports through new terrain as the founding CEO of Alterra Mountain
Company. Rusty's stewardship of the mountains and the industry extends beyond ski
area boundaries. A longtime member of the Yosemite Conservancy Board of Directors,
Rusty has worked to protect both the sport and the mountain landscape upon which it
depends. Most importantly, Rusty cares about people. The relationships he has built
and the leaders he has mentored will have a positive influence on skiing for years to
