Jan Bucher grew up as a competitive ice skater but injuries forced her to change her sport. She stepped into skis for the first time at the age of 18 and used her considerable talent to become among the very best in freestyle skiing's ballet event. During her career she amassed an incredible 57 World Cup victories and was the U.S. Champion three times (1988,1989,1991). She won the World Cup Ballet Championship from 1980 to 1984 and again in 1986 and 1989. She was the silver medal winner at the 1988 Winter Olympic Games where ballet was an exhibition event and was World Champion in 1989.
