Conrad Thompson was trained by Carl Tellefsen and became the winner of the 18th annual ski jumping tournament of the Ishpeming Ski Club.  This took place on February 22, 1904 and he has been determined by ski historians as the first national ski jumping champion.

Thompson worked with Tellefsen on the establishment of the National Ski Association and was active in the Ishpeming Ski Club.  He retired from active competition in 1909 and eventually moved to Canada where he became prominent in that country's mining industry.
