Hans Strand actively worked in ski sport for over 50 years especially at Bear Mountain, in New York States where he was employed.

A winner of his first ski jumping tournament at the age of 10 he immigrated from Norway in 1925.  He competed in ski jumping events throughout the east and mid-west winning a senior men's title in 1942 and the Eastern and New York State veteran's titles.  His dedication kept ski jumping active at Bear Mountain throughout World War Two when many other facilities were shut down.

Among his achievements was the perfection of the triple jump whereby three ski jumpers would come off a jump simultaneously.  It was a real crowd pleaser.
