Herb Schneider immigrated to the United States in 1939 with his father, the famous Hannes Schneider, who was the leading proponent of the Arlberg Technique. During World War Two he served in the famous 10th Mountain Division.

Like his father he devoted his life in skiing to ski instruction. He was a certified instructor from 1940 and a certified examiner by 1956. From 1946 to 1955 he was the director of the Hannes Schneider Ski School.

In 1962 he was a member of the PSIA demonstration team at the Interski conference and served on the board of the PSIA from 1963 to 1972. Upon his father's death until 1984 he was the owner of the Mount Cranmore Skimobile Ski Area and remained on as a consultant after it was sold. He authored Let's Go Skiing and was made an honorary life member of the PSIA.
