Wilbert Rasmussen was another Ishpeming trained ski jumper who was highly competitive and added to the mystique of ski jumping in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.  At the age of 15 he set a hill record of 250 feet at Ishpeming's Suicide Bowl.  Throughout his career he would set several hill records and frequently earned "Most Graceful Rider" awards.

He won the national Class C title in 1949 and was second in Class A in 1950.  He was selected for the U.S. FIS Teams in 1950, 1953 and 1958 and competed at the 1952 Olympic Games.  In 1957 he won the national Class A title.  Eventually he retired to meet financial and family obligations but coached junior ski jumpers from 1964 to 1973.
