Fred Pabst was a prominent skiing promoter who possessed confidence and business and sport instincts that made him a prominent developer of ski areas in his time.  An entrepreneur he built rope tows throughout the north east and eventually owned 17 ski areas.  However, he found this to be too much even for him and eventually focused his attention on Big Bromley in Vermont where he established the east's first serious snow making operation in 1965.
