Sigurd Overby immigrated to the United States in 1915. He was the last member of the 1924 U.S. Olympic ski team to be honored by the Hall of Fame.
Overby held three U.S. national cross country titles won in 1916, 1923 and 1926. As a member of the first U.S. Olympic ski team in 1924 he finished 11th in the Nordic combined and 19th in the special jumping. He was not regarded as an especially strong ski jumper so these results were exceptional.
He was remembered as a small wiry man who used specially constructed skis and had an outstanding poling technique.
