Dr. Robert Oden demonstrated his love for skiing by promoting race course safety over a twenty year period. Honored in 1998 as the "Sports Medicine Doctor of the Year" he was responsible in the 1960's and '70's for recruiting well known orthopedic specialists to serve US ski teams at their own expense by travelling to all FIS events. He was the medical advisor to the U.S. Olympic Committee from 1960 to 1980. He was one of the founding trustees of the U.S. Ski Team Educational Foundation. Honored at both the divisional and national level he received the Julius Blegen Trophy in 1985.
