Penny McCoy

Penny McCoy was racing on skis by the age of six, a natural result of being the daughter of Roma and Dave McCoy, the founding owners of Mammoth Mountain resort in California which provided much developmental support to young ski racers.  She attended her first junior nationals at the age of 12 and in 1964 won the national junior women's slalom and combined.  She then went on to claim a bronze medal at the World Championships in slalom that same year.

Two years later she won a World Cup slalom event at Heavenly Valley. and claimed the national slalom title in 1967.
