Dave McCoy will always be remembered as the developer of the great Mammoth Mountain Ski Area on the western slopes of California. He moved to the area as a hydrologist but soon became involved in skiing beginning his career in 1936 and racing in competitions throughout the state. After suffering a severe leg fracture, serious racing came to an end. During the war years he set up a rope tow that he took throughout the lower regions of the Mammoth Mountain country.
Eventually he started to develop Mammoth Mountain which became a hands on project and lifetime labor of love. He also encouraged young ski racers including his daughter Penny who is also an Honored Member of the Hall of Fame. His nomination to the Hall of Fame was put forward by the women of the U.S. Ski Team.
